We have found a great danger in hitting the front of road barriers. Imagine what would happen if motorists swerved off the road and quickly approached the front of a concrete barrier on the side or in the middle of the road, as well as a metal barrier at road junctions, because fatalities will surely occur, even in cases of survival with serious injuries.
Despite the importance of road barriers, they still negatively affect road safety, which is why Shawahid has developed shock-absorption systems.
These are systems designed by Shawahid Industrial Roads Co. to significantly reduce the risk of collision with the front of the barriers and achieve the greatest protection for the lives of passengers and drivers. Crash cushion systems stand as a wall between the vehicle and the front of the barriers, causing only minor damage to the car while absorbing the maximum amount of collision energy. The special design of the crash cushion systems that Shawahid Co. worked on is what made the system highly efficient in absorbing shocks, and to simplify it we will divide the system into three main parts.
The system’s cushions are characterized by their ability to absorb shocks, as they are made in a cylindrical shape from high-quality materials and elasticity when impacted, they compress without breaking due to a weak point in the center.
The beams of the Crash Cushion can absorb the impact and redirect the vehicle back to the correct path. When the vehicle hits the device from the front and the internal cushions are compressed, each beam surrounding the cushion slides under the next beam with the help of the sliding spacers between the beams, which helps to gradually stop the vehicle.
The nose of our innovative system has blunt edges, designed to avoid serious injuries in the event of a collision, and is covered with a sheet of reflective film.
The high efficiency with which crash cushion systems are designed explains their role in road safety and accident prevention.
When the vehicle collides with the Crash Cushion from the front, the internal cushions compress without breaking and the side beams gradually slide under each other until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. The cushions absorb most of the impact energy and there is little impact on the vehicle itself. When the car crashes into the system from the side, the beams redirect the vehicle back onto the road.
The crash cushion system thus maximally protects passengers and drivers from all angles and at various speeds up to 120 km/h.
