Roadside barriers in The Saudi GP From Shawahid

A 308.750 km race on a 6.176 km circuit. Yes, that’s right. It’s one of the most important and exciting events that will be held in Saudi Arabia next year in its fifth version. In the following, we will explore details about the Saudi GP (Saudi Arabian Grand Prix) race and how the racers and spectators are effectively secured by roadside barriers to avoid serious injuries.

Some of the Saudi GP Facts

Some may be surprised by the length of the race compared to the length of the circuit, but this is normal in this type of racing. As in the Saudi GP, despite the large number of kilometers that make up 50 laps of the Saudi GP, the design of Formula 1 cars enables them to finish the race in not much time. The cars are very light, and the physical properties of the wheels keep them stuck to the ground, which increases their performance speed.

The expected average speed of the cars in the Saudi GP is 253.9 km/h, with a top speed of 322 km/h.

This means the Saudi GP could take up to 120 minutes due to the corners of the Jeddah Corniche International Circuit on the Red Sea coast.

How to keep drivers and spectators safe at the Saudi GP

Despite the exciting and enjoyable atmosphere for the racers and of course the spectators in the Saudi GP, the risk of injury is high, so as this is not the first time the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has hosted a Formula 1 race, the circuit has been highly equipped and secured with roadside barriers but with a specific design for the racetrack to enhance safety. The roadside barriers used for the Saudi GP are: Triple Guardrail and Debris Fence, and we will explain their role and features in the following paragraphs.

Triple Guardrail in the Saudi GP

The triple guardrail barriers used in the Saudi GP are similar to the guardrail barriers used on roads, manufactured by Shawahid Industrial Roads Company, but differ in that they are thinner and the distance between the beams and the asphalt is minimal to prevent serious injury in the event of a collision in the Saudi GP.

Guardrail barriers are highly durable and made from hot galvanized coils. They can usually resist a collision and redirect vehicles back onto the road.

Triple Guardrail barriers are installed in front of the debris fence mounted above the concrete barrier in front of the spectators to secure further. They are also used on the other side of the track in the Saudi GP to secure racers in the event of a collision.

The Concrete barrier and Debris fence in the Saudi GP

The debris fence is the most important element of spectator safety in the Saudi GP. It is installed in the second line of protection behind the Guardrail barriers. Due to its importance as a permanent protection element, it is installed along the Saudi GP track to provide maximum protection for spectators, workers, and others.

Sometimes the debris fence is mounted on top of the concrete barrier, and with these barriers and fences, the spectators are highly protected, and if cars hit the fence, they fall off or rebound back onto the track.

Shawahid’s Ability to Secure the Saudi GP Race

We have become a pioneer in traffic safety across Saudi Arabia because we design our products with the highest quality and test them before use to ensure their high efficiency during installation and utilization. Therefore, we have participated with our roadside barriers and various systems in various major projects for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Just as we design and manufacture different types of Guardrail barriers (single, double, and triple) for roads, we can also manufacture the triple Guardrail barriers used in the Saudi GP. We also have the required materials to manufacture the debris fence to be installed in this race, knowing that this event is part of the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 to improve the quality of life and enhance the national identity.

You can check out the features and characteristics of Shawahid’s Guardrail on our product page, and easily obtain the best roadside barriers and racing barriers through our various mediums of communication.
