Traffic safety and sustainability in one place

Riyadh is the “Arab Environment Capital”. This is how Riyadh has been nicknamed for two years, reflecting its role in achieving sustainability in traffic safety.

Riyadh’s achievement in preserving the environment and sustainability coincides with the holding of the Science in the Service of Society and Environment Conference.

Science in the Service of Society and Environment Conference, what it is, and how it relates to traffic safety

The Science in the Service of Society and Environment conference was held in its first edition on February 3 and served as a platform to discuss developments in the field of science, while promoting collaboration between researchers and industry experts to achieve societal impact and promote environmental sustainability in all fields. This is in line with the directions of the Saudi’s Vision 2030.

Under the slogan “Saudi Green” and its initiative to preserve the environment and support sustainability, the KSA subjected road safety also to sustainability and environmental preservation like other fields. This is what we will explain below.

Sustainability in road safety, has the Kingdom succeeded in achieving it?

Sustainability means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”, so sustainability can be linked to preserving the environment, which is what Saudi Arabia has sought to achieve.

The Ministry of Transportation and the Roads General Authority solved this issue by equipping these intersections with solar-powered lighting poles, which contributed to eliminating a large percentage of traffic accidents that occur at intersections in different areas of the KSA.

In this way, Saudi Arabia has achieved a triple objective: road safety, sustainability, and environmental preservation.

Road safety

When the KSA installed lighting poles at intersections, the intersections were better lit and clearer, the number of accidents decreased and traffic accidents eliminated.

Preserving the Environment

Saudi Arabia uses solar energy in its system. The panels that contain solar cells store light energy during the day and convert it into electrical energy that works at night once the sun goes down and doesn’t need an external energy source, so it preserves the environment and prevents emissions or damage to nature.

Sustainability

By using renewable energy, as mentioned in the previous point, we have achieved sustainability by achieving the goal we seek, which is road safety, using current resources, namely renewable solar energy, without affecting resources and destroying the future environment.

Traffic safety systems achieve the three elements

As Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world are moving towards the concept of sustainability and preserving the environment, we have followed the Kingdom’s approach by manufacturing safety systems to match it.

For example:

Solar traffic signs and road studs, a panel of solar energy cells integrated and installed on top of the road signs and on the top of the road studs to convert solar energy into electricity that illuminates the LEDs contained in these systems, achieving the greatest safety while preserving the environment and sustainability.

Raptor can be recycled without the need to replace it, thus preserving the environment and not wasting resources.
