What is NEOM, and why is it important to minimize road accident?
One of the new cities that Saudi Arabia has started to establish is Neom, which is not only a new and developed city, but also one of the most important smart cities in Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf. Because of its great importance and its important location connecting three countries: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan, taking care of the infrastructure and road network and securing it well to protect lives and minimize accidents was essential.
The KSA has succeeded in doing this to a great extent in its road projects and securing them with the help of traffic safety systems and devices, such as barriers and other systems that we will mention.
MegaSRail barriers to minimize road accident in Neom City
NEOM is characterized by its magnificent desert areas, and of course, roads have been built and designed to pass through part of the desert. These roads are surrounded by sand and desert dunes, which can pose a danger to drivers and road users.
The Saudi Ministry of Transportation and Logistics utilized MegaSRail barriers designed by Shawahid.
MegaSRail Barriers overcome road accidents
Through the excellent design that Shawahid Industrial Roads Co. has worked on in manufacturing MegazSRail barriers, they have become highly requested in desert roads due to their ability to protect lives and overcome the sand.
Due to their higher-than-normal barriers and slim thickness, MegazSRail barriers are able to prevent sand from accumulating on them, making them able to do their role efficiently. The barriers are able to absorb impacts and redirect vehicles without being affected by sand, unlike regular barriers, where sand overcomes the barriers and buries the posts.
Can Roller barriers overcome road accident?
Roller barriers are the best version and improvement of metal road barriers, as they can completely overcome the danger that occurs when a car swerves off the road or accidentally collides with it. It completely prevents injury to the driver and passengers and gradually redirects them back into the lane.
This is done through the barrier’s highly efficient design components.
Rollers absorb road accident energy
The rollers are flexible to absorb the impact without harming the occupants. Upon impact, the rollers rotate up to 120 km/h, against the direction of the vehicle, gradually redirecting the vehicle back onto the road.
The rollers are covered with two reflective film sheets that enhance the visibility of the road and the rollers at night and in bad weather conditions.
Case study – the accident was saved by Shawahid’s Systems
In February 2025, one driver was involved in an accident in Neom City, where he crashed into the guardrail on one side of the road. But thanks to God and the presence of the Shawahid’s End Terminal, which is mounted on the Guardrail, the driver returned to his family safe and unharmed after an accident on the Neom highway.
The Guardrail End Terminal performed its role as expected, proving once again the importance of advanced road safety systems in protecting lives.

Solar road studs rely completely on solar energy without the need for an external power source to generate electricity.
