Remembering Saudi National Day for the memory of his majesty King Abdul-Aziz bin Abdulrahman.

King Abdul-Aziz was born in Riyadh in 1293. As a child, the king was known for his courage and willpower, and he was a lover of horsemanship, and the traveler’s life he lived with his father after his exit from Riyadh was the cause of these qualities and his endurance.

When he was twenty-six years old, he set out with his relatives and associates on an expedition from Kuwait toward Riyadh, where chaos had spread across the Arabian Peninsula. He regained the city of Riyadh on the fifth of Shawwal 1319 Hijri, the capital of his ancestral king and the starting point for the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His father stepped down and King Abdul-aziz assumed the reins of political and religious authority.

First Saudi National Day and Kingdom Beginning

After King Abdul Aziz became king, he began to unify the regions of Najd one after the other. He started from the south of Riyadh in 1320 Hijri and unified all the southern cities. Then he moved to the Weshm region, where he entered its most prominent city, Shaqra, 100 kilometers northwest of Riyadh.

King Abdulaziz also fought many other battles, the most prominent of these decisive battles was the battle of Rawdat Muhanna, which he won on 18 Safar 1324 Hijri, thus enabling him to unify the Qassim region within several years from 1321 to 1324 Hijri.

After the great efforts of the great King Abdulaziz, a decree was issued on 17 Jumada I 1351 to unify all parts of the modern Saudi Arabian state into one name: ‘The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’, this is Saudi National Day.

Saudi National Day celebrations

The National Day celebrations and events held on this day vary from one country to another according to each culture and the prevailing customs in this country.

Some countries may only declare it an official holiday, which is what happens on Saudi National Day when 21 Jumada I is considered an official holiday, which is the Saudi national day chosen by His Majesty King Abdulaziz after its unification.

Citizens wear traditional Saudi clothing, and the Kingdom’s flags are flown everywhere on Saudi National Day. Military shows are held to show the strength of the Saudi Arabian army.

Saudi National Day differs from Foundation Day, as Foundation Day dates back to the day on which Imam Muhammad announced the establishment of the first Saudi state, which lasted until 1233 AH.
